And all I could say was ‘wow’…

One day can change everything. It was absolutely wonderful to see staff back in school yesterday and enjoy preparing for another half term ahead. I didn’t expect to see a complete transformation of Pre-School. All I could say was ‘wow’ and the ‘wows’ didn’t stop there. I spoke to Mrs. Kerr, who has kindly organised a geographical/scientific competition for the whole school, and  I amazed myself when I actually answered a correct question about bananas. I can tell you that the largest percentage of bananas grown are in India. Who knew!? Fairsnape are beginning their journey into Lilliput as they learn about Gulliver’s Travels and Europe. Beacon Class are exploring ‘Inventions and Inventors’ and I know we look forward to seeing their own creations. I can’t believe the quality of art work around school. The gallery wall is filling up and we will be starting a Young Enterprise UFA group and selling watercolour cards to the public. With new music lessons beginning, sport’s clubs, after school clubs and a new school band, I can’t wait to see what excitement this half term holds. The children shine in so many ways and I thank all staff who constantly go above and beyond to provide such a first class and diverse curriculum. I think the classrooms say it all. At the end of this half term, we will have parent meetings and you can also come in to celebrate learning with your child after the coffee morning concert on Friday 24th March. Classrooms will be open door to visitors after the concert and your child can show you all of the exciting things they have been learning this half term.  Year 1 parents are invited into school on Monday 13th March at 3.30pm for a ‘Year 1 Phonics Screening Check’ meeting followed by an open door tour of the classroom by your child. In June, Year 1 children have a short phonics quiz. The children read real and ‘alien’ words to test their phonics knowledge, as required by the DfE. The meeting for all Year 1 parents will be insightful and full of tips and takeaway resources to support home learning. Useful websites can be found on the parent section on this website and our powerpoint presentation and past test booklets will explain everything. This is absolutely nothing to worry about.  A newsletter will come home this Friday containing dates for your diary. We will be putting an online calendar on our school website soon. I will let you know when this has been created.
