Physical Education Overview
At St. Francis our Physical Education curriculum is designed to inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and physically demanding activities. We believe that PE plays a vital role in promoting a healthy lifestyle, building character, and fostering teamwork and resilience.
Quality PE Lessons with PE Passport
Our PE lessons are structured and progressive, delivered using the PE Passport—a comprehensive tool that supports high-quality teaching and learning in PE. This platform allows us to:
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons across all key stages
- Track pupil progress and attainment
- Ensure coverage of a broad and balanced PE curriculum
- Promote skill development in areas such as gymnastics, dance, games, athletics, and outdoor adventurous activities
PE Passport helps us maintain consistency and excellence in our PE provision, ensuring every child receives a rich and rewarding experience.
Wellbeing and Health Benefits
Physical Education is central to our commitment to pupil wellbeing. Regular physical activity improves mental health, boosts self-esteem, and enhances concentration and academic performance. Through PE and sport, children learn the importance of:
- Staying active for life
- Making healthy lifestyle choices
- Managing stress and emotions
- Building positive relationships through teamwork and cooperation
We aim to instill lifelong habits that support physical and emotional wellbeing, helping our pupils grow into healthy, happy, and confident individuals.
Competitive Sport
We offer a wide range of opportunities for pupils to participate in competitive sport, both within school and against other schools. Through inter-house competitions, local leagues, and regional tournaments, pupils develop not only their physical skills but also their confidence, sportsmanship, and sense of achievement. Our inclusive approach ensures that all children, regardless of ability, have the chance to represent their school and experience the joy of competition.

Thank you to the Y5/6 boys who behaved impeccably, tried their best and kept the St Francis values close to their heart – you did the school proud today.
