What a remarkable and joy‑filled few weeks it has been at St. Francis’. Our school has been buzzing with enthusiasm as our pupils immersed themselves in celebration, creativity and curiosity across a number of special events. I am delighted to share some of the highlights with you.

St. Francis’ Jubilee Year

This year, the Church is celebrating 800 years since St Francis of Assisi died. He loved animals, nature, peace, and helping the poor, and we are invited to follow his example.

St Francis died in 1226 in Assisi. He became a saint just two years later, in 1228.
His feast day is 4 October, when people celebrate his kindness and his love for creation.

We continue to celebrate our Jubilee Year with pride, reflecting on the rich history and enduring mission of our school. Children have been learning about the values that have shaped St. Francis’ over the decades, and we have taken time together to give thanks for the community that makes our school such a special place. Assemblies, prayer reflections and class-based activities have helped children appreciate the significance of this milestone, and we look forward to the many Jubilee events still to come throughout the year. We look forward to inviting you into school for an immersive St.Francis' art gallery to link with our constant response to Laudato Si as co-creators with God to look after our common home.

Safety Week whole School presentation

Following a fantastic safety week, the children presented superb class assemblies...

National Careers Week

During National Careers Week, our pupils were encouraged to dream big, think broadly and explore the world of future possibilities. Classes took part in workshops, career spotlights and discussions about different roles within our community. Older pupils especially enjoyed learning about pathways into a range of professions, helping them reflect on their own talents and aspirations. Thank you to the parents and visitors who gave their time to speak to the children – your insights made the week truly memorable.

We enjoyed inviting The Little Role-play Village team into school. EYFS and infant children had a great time in the role- play areas...

Police Visit

We were delighted to welcome local police officers into school for an engaging and informative visit. Their sessions helped pupils understand how the police keep our community safe, and the children were full of thoughtful questions. The officers also spoke about responsible citizenship, online safety and the importance of making positive choices. The highlight for many pupils was, of course, exploring the police vehicle on the playground!

World Book Day

World Book Day once again brought colour, creativity and excitement to every corridor. From wonderfully imaginative costumes to cosy shared reading sessions, our children embraced the joy of stories. Staff joined in the fun too, and classrooms were full of book‑themed activities aimed at inspiring a lifelong love of reading. Thank you for the time and effort that went into the fantastic costumes – the day was a true celebration of imagination.

Year 5 buddies were lovely with their little friends in Reception Class...all of the budding authors.

Science Week – STEM Focus: Curiosity...What's your Question?

This year’s Science Week centred on STEM, giving pupils opportunities to think like scientists, engineers and inventors. Children took part in hands‑on investigations, problem‑solving challenges and practical experiments designed to spark curiosity. Whether designing structures, exploring forces or making predictions and testing them, pupils showed great enthusiasm and teamwork. We hope this experience has strengthened their confidence and encouraged them to see themselves as future innovators.

Yesterday, we watched a brilliant whole school assembly, with interesting presentations from all classes...

Year 3 and 4 Gymnastics

Well done to our gymnasts, who came 1st overall and achieved 1st and 2nd places for boys and girls.

Year 3 and 4 football

Our Year 3 and 4 footballers were brilliant at the local schools football match with an overall 3rd place!

Swimming Gala

Well done to our super swimmers, who came 3rd in their group.

As always, I am incredibly proud of our pupils and grateful to our staff for their hard work in creating such rich learning experiences. Thank you, too, to our families for your ongoing support. Together, we continue to make St. Francis’ a nurturing and inspiring place to grow, learn and flourish.

We look forward to a great trip and THE BIG LENT WALK! It would be lovely to see you in church on Sunday for Family Mass.

Wishing you a restful weekend ahead.
